Pharmacovigilance-2013 Report
The 2nd International Conference and Exhibition on Pharmacovigilance & Clinical Trials took place in San Antonio on November 18 – 19, 2013. The conference’s prime agenda was: "Monitoring the Challenges in Drugs Safety and Risk Management to Ensure the Safer Drugs to the Market".
The 2013 Annual Conference reflected the development of pharmacovigilance, drug safety and clinical trials from a new to a mature industry, highlighting through various sessions how the science is having an impact on society, and how it can generate even greater impact.
On the first day opening keynote speakers Walter Schwerdtfeger, Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices Germany, and Keith A. Wesnes, Northumbria University UK, described their path towards social impact. Talking from an investee point of view, Walter Schwerdtfeger elaborated Challenges from the new European pharmacovigilance legislation and their implementation by competent authorities.
The other sessions of the day included presentations regarding Pharmacovigilance and its Challenges, Role of Clinical Trials, Clinical Trials on Diseases, and Adverse Drug Reactions, with the main conclusions being that it is an emerging field and a lot is yet to be explored, the second day included Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics, Pharmacy Practices and its Challenges and Case Report in Clinical Trials, chaired and co-chaired by Jayshree Mishra, and Keith A. Wesnes. The session was followed by a number of speeches that discussed various PV topics, from financial tools and scientific strategies to impact measurement and different target sectors.
