A 'computerized tomography' (CT) or 'computerized axial tomography' (CAT) scan uses a computer that takes data from several X-ray images of structures inside a human's or animal's body and converts them into pictures on a monitor. A 'computerized tomography' (CT) or 'computerized axial tomography' (CAT) scan uses a computer that takes data from several X-ray images of structures inside a human's or animal's body and converts them into pictures on a monitor. Inside the CT scanner there is an X-ray detector which can see hundreds of different levels of density. The CT scanner uses digital geometry processing to generate a 3-dimensional (3D) image of the inside of an object. Although CT is a useful tool for assisting diagnosis in medicine, it is a source of ionizing radiation and can cause cancer. The National Cancer Institute1 advises patients to discuss the risks and benefits of computerized tomography with their doctors. Usage of CT has increased dramatically over the last two decades in many countries. An estimated 72 million scans were performed in the United States in 2007. Since its introduction in the 1970s, CT has become an important tool in medical imaging to supplement x-rays and medical ultrasonography. It has more recently been used for preventive medicine or screening for disease, for example CT colonography for patients with a high risk of colon cancer, or full-motion heart scans for patients with high risk of heart disease. A CT scan shows organ tear and organ injury more quickly - so it may be the best choice for accident victims. A number of institutions offer full-body scans for the general population although this practice goes against the advice and official position of many professional organizations in the field. Industrial CT Scanning (industrial computed tomography) is a process which utilizes x-ray equipment to produce 3D representations of components both externally and internally. Industrial CT scanning has been utilized in many areas of industry for internal inspection of components. Some of the key uses for CT scanning have been flaw detection, failure analysis, metrology, assembly analysis, and reverse engineering applications. CT scanning is also employed in the imaging and conservation of museum artifacts. CT scanning has also found an application in transport security (predominantly airport security where it is currently used in a materials analysis context for explosives detection CTX (explosive-detection device) and is also under consideration for automated baggage/parcel security scanning using computer vision based object recognition algorithms that target the detection of specific threat items based on 3D appearance (e.g. guns, knives, liquid containers). OMICS Group International is an amalgamation of Open Access publications and worldwide international science conferences and events. Established in the year 2007 with the sole aim of making the information on Sciences and technology ‘Open Access’, OMICS Group publishes 400 online open access scholarly journals in all aspects of Science, Engineering, Management and Technology journals. OMICS Group has been instrumental in taking the knowledge on Science & technology to the doorsteps of ordinary men and women. Research Scholars, Students, Libraries, Educational Institutions, Research centers and the industry are main stakeholders that benefitted greatly from this knowledge dissemination. OMICS Group also organizes 300 International conferences annually across the globe, where knowledge transfer takes place through debates, round table discussions, poster presentations, workshops, symposia and exhibitions. Computerized Tomography Conferences The conferences related to computerized tomography are The Third International Conference on Image Formation in X-Ray Computed Tomography, Coronary CT Angiography, 31st Annual Computed Body Tomography 2015: The Cutting Edge, etc… Major Computerized Tomography and related Symposiums and Workshops National symposiums and Workshops provide a dedicated forum for the advancement, application and exchange of information about computerized tomography and its allied areas. Around 20 National symposiums and Workshops are going to be held across the globe which includes “17th International Symposium on Multidetector-Row CTâ€, “Tomography for Scientific Advancement symposiumâ€, “Siemens CT at the ECR 2014†and many more. Major Computerized Tomography Societies and Associations Some of the associations related to computerized tomography are Society for Cardiovadcular Computed Tomography (SCCT) is the international professional society representing physicians, scientists and technologists advocating for research, education and clinical excellence in the use of cardiovascular computed tomography. Society of Computed Body Tomography and Magnetic Resonance (SCBT-MR) has been one of the most respected, professional organizations in the field of radiology. The Society has developed an annual research awards program to provide grants and awards for important clinical breakthrough research. International Society for Computed Tomography (ISCT) is dedicated to promoting and coordinating the scientific, philanthropic, intellectual and professional activities of computed tomography. The Society's mission is to serve the health care needs of the general public through the support of science, teaching and research and the quality of service in the field of computed tomography.
