Congestive Heart Failure

As per available reports about 15 Conferences  and 13 Journals are published by OMICS International relevant to Congestive heart failure.

Congestive Heart Failure, often used to mean chronic heart failure (CHF), also often used to mean Heart Failure(HF) occurs when the heart is unable to pump sufficiently to maintain Blood flow to meet the needs of the body.  On vigorous study of Cardiovascular Diseases through Cardiology Case Reports and Case Reports on Pathology , the reasons and possible treatment of congestive heart failure can be generated by the branch of Integrative Cardiology.

OMICS International organises 1000+ Global Events every Year in Conference series, on Clinical, Medicine, Pharma and Science & Technology every year across USA, Europe, Asia, Middle East, Australia and UK with support from 1000 more scientific societies and Publishes 700+ open access journals  which contains over 100000 eminent personalities, reputed scientists as editorial board and organizing committee members.

Scope & Importance

Congestive heart failure is an atypical condition that mirrors impaired cardiac pumping and the incapability to maintain the metabolic requirements of the body. Its reasons comprise of

  • Shortness of breath
  • Feet and legs swelling
  • Feeling tired and lack of energy
  • Difficulties at sleeping at nights due to breathing problems
  • Loss of appetite  and swollen or tender abdomen
  • Cough with "foamy" mucus or phlegm
  • Increased urination at night
  • Confusion
  • Reduced memory

The terms congestive heart failure (CHF) or congestive cardiac failure (CCF) are often used interchangeably with chronic heart failure. Symptoms commonly include shortness of breath, excessive tiredness, and leg swelling. The shortness of breath is usually worse with exercise, when lying down, and at night while sleeping. There is often a limitation on the amount of exercise people can perform, even when well treated. Common causes of heart failure include coronary artery disease including a previous myocardial infarction (heart attack), high Blood pressure, atrial fibrillation, valvular heart disease, and cardiology. These cause heart failure by changing either the structure or the functioning of the heart. There are two main types of heart failure: heart failure due to left ventricular dysfunction and heart failure with normal ejection fraction depending on if the ability of the left ventricle to contract is affected, or the heart's ability to relax.

Symptoms and Complications of Congestive Heart Failure:The appearance of symptoms of CHF can be delayed for years. This is because the heart tries to compensate when it is not pumping efficiently.

The heart compensates in three ways:

1.Dilating (enlarging) to form a bigger pump

2.Adding new muscle tissue to pump harder

3.Beating at a faster rate

As the heart compensates, several things happen that can result in symptoms. The heart cannot pump well enough to pump the blood through the body and back to the heart again. Blood then backs up into the legs and the lungs, causing fluid buildup. This causes visible swelling of the ankles and legs and shortness of breath.

The most common symptoms of CHF include:

1.Breathing difficulties during the night or when lying down

2.Coughing and wheezing

3.Fatigue and weakness

4.Shortness of breath

5.Swollen ankles

Other symptoms of CHF include :

Abdominal pain, bloating, or loss of appetite, accumulation of fluid in the abdomen, bluish skin around the mouth, constipation, pale skin and cold hands or feet urination at night.

Congestive Heart Failure usually develops over a long period, nonetheless may be abrupt in onset. Epidemiology Congestive heart failure is a main health delinquent which affects 2-3 million and 400,000 new cases are made a diagnosis every year. Drug therapy with multiple agents–diuretics, ACE inhibitors, digoxin, nitrates, CCBs, beta-blockers, inotropic agents that rise intracellular sodium for example, vesnarinone have a slight therapeutic range prognosis. 5 year mortality rate for Congestive heart failure after the onset, is 62% for males and 42% for females. About 200,000 deaths  to Congestive heart failure occur per year in United States. Increased norepinephrine levels directly relates with hemodynamic severity and poor prognosis. Statistics show that, about 5.1 million people in the United States have heart failure and one in 9 deaths in 2009 comprised heart failure as causative. Around half of people who has heart failure die within 5 years of diagnosis. Heart failure budgets of USA  is estimated at around $32 billion each year. This whole includes the charge of health care services, medications to treat heart failure, and lost days of work.
