As per available reports about 10 Relevant Journals, 13 Conferences, 10 workshops are presently dedicated exclusively to Ethno medicine and about 35 articles are being published on Traditional medicine. Ethno medicine refers to the study of traditional medical practice which is concerned with the cultural interpretation of health, diseases and illness and also addresses the health care seeking process and healing practices. The practice of ethnomedicine is a complex multi-disciplinary system constituting the use of plants, spirituality and the natural environment and has been the source of healing for people for millennia. Scientific ethnomedical studies constitute either anthropological research or drug discovery research. Anthropological studies examine the cultural perception and context of a traditional medicine. The purpose of drug discovery research is to identify and develop a marketable pharmaceutical product. When investigating a natural product used by a culture as a medicine, it is important that the methods of collection, extraction and preparation are the same or similar to those used by the ethnic group. This is to ensure consistency and legitimacy of the experimentation.

Scope and importance
Research interest and activities in the area of ethnomedicine have increased tremendously in the last decade. Since the inception of the discipline, scientific research in ethnomedicine has made important contribution to the understanding of traditional subsistence, medical knowledge and practice. It is interesting to note that the ethnomedicinal uses of plants is one of the most successful criteria used by the pharmaceutical industry in finding new therapeutic agents for the various fields of biomedicine. Some outstanding medicinal drugs which have been developed from the ethnomedicinal uses of plants include: vinblastine and vincristine from Catharanthus roseus (the periwinkle), reserpine from Rauwolfia serpentina (Indian snake root), aspirin from Salix purpurea (willow) and quinine from Cinchona pubescens (cinchona). Today about 80% of the world’s population rely predominantly on plants and plant extracts for healthcare (4). In addition, of the top 150 proprietary drugs used in the United States of America (USA), 57% contain at least one major active compound currently or once derived from plants. According to data released by the World Health Organization (WHO), ethnomedicine has maintained its popularity in all regions of the developing world and its use is rapidly expanding in the industrialized countries.
Market Analysis
The global alternative medicine sector is expected to reach close to $115 billion by 2016, according to Global Industry Analysts. Market growth is fuelled by a trend toward herbal and nature-based products, based on the presumption these products cause fewer side effects than modern medicines. Alternative medicine disciplines such as acupuncture, homeopathy, massage, ayurveda, and traditional Chinese medicine are being practiced more widely in the western world. Around 75% of the population in emerging nations receive alternative medical healthcare, compared with over half of the population of developed nations, particularly for lifestyle-related diseases. Chinese Traditional Medicine ( TCM) market is rapidly developing since later of 1990s. In 2010, the output value of TCM amounted to RMB317.2 billion (about €36.8 billion), which increased 24%. The net yield and profits of TCM production is much higher than the average for the country's medical industry. The total TCM market in China will rise to €96,2 billion in 2025.
