Ischemic stroke occurs when blood flow stops to a part of brain. It may sometimes call as “Brain Attackâ€. If the blood flow stops for longer than a few seconds, the brain cannot get blood and oxygen, then brain cells can die, causing lasting damage. Causes: There are three major types of stroke A.Ischemic stroke B.Hemorrhagic stroke C.Transient ischemic attack Ischemic stroke occurs when a blood vessel that supplies blood to brain is stopped by a blood clot. This may happen in two ways: •A clot may form in an artery that is already very narrow. This condition is known as Thrombotic stroke. • A clot may break off from another place in the blood vessels of the brain, or from some other parts of a body, and travel up to the brain. This is called cerebral embolism or an embolic stroke. Ischemic strokes may be caused by a sticky substance called plaque that can block the arteries. A hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a blood vessel in part of the brain becomes weak and bursts open. This causes blood to leak into the brain. Some people have defects in the blood vessels of the brain that make this more likely. These defects may include: • Aneurysm • Arteriovenous malformation (AVM) TIAs are different from the aforementioned kinds of stroke because the flow of blood to the brain is only disrupted temporarily for a short time. They are similar to ischemic strokes in that they are often caused by blood clots or other debris. TIAs should be regarded as medical emergencies just like the other kinds of stroke, even if the blockage of the artery is temporary. They serve as warning signs for future strokes and indicate that there is a partially blocked artery or clot source in the heart
